How the CPA Exam is structured
The CPA is not a single test. Under the AICPA's CPA Evolution model, every candidate passes three Core sections: Auditing and Attestation (AUD), Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR), and Taxation and Regulation (REG), plus one Discipline section of their choice: Business Analysis and Reporting (BAR), Information Systems and Controls (ISC), or Tax Compliance and Planning (TCP). You do not take all three Disciplines: you pick the one that fits your career track. Each section is a separate 4-hour exam with multiple-choice questions and task-based simulations.
